My Father, teach me to trust your love. May I dare to believe in it when the dark clouds build as well as when the sun shines. May I never doubt that you are doing your best for me and that what I do not know now, I shall know hereafter.

Gracious Father, I thank you for the Son of your love, for all that he has done for us, and will do; for all that he has been to us, and will be. I thank you that he holds me in his strong, pierced hand, loving me with the love that cannot let me go. You make your dwelling, O God, with those who have a humble and contrite spirit and who tremble at your word. Take my weakness up into your strength, my ignorance into your wisdom, my changefulness into your everlasting constancy. Lord Jesus! Make the fountain of my heart pure, that the streams may be pure also. May my heart compose good things, that my mouth may speak of our King. May my conversation be seasoned with grace, full of truth and love and strength. How great is your goodness, O God, which you have stored up for those who fear you, which you have worked for those who trust in you! For from you and through you and to you are all things, and to you shall be the glory forever. Quickly come, Lord Jesus, to right the wrongs of time and establish your everlasting kingdom. Grant to me, though unworthy, to sit with you at your heavenly table, and see you when you are crowned in the joy of your bride, the church. Great Shepherd! Lead me to the pastures of tender grass and by the waters of rest; or if my way lies among rocks and desert places, support me with blessings of goodness. Let your rod and staff be my comfort. O Savior, forgive my sins, my faithless tears, and my repining complaints; my thoughtlessness of others and my self-centered anxiety. Lift me on to the tide of your love and up to fuller, richer, deeper levels of experience. For all your gracious care I reverently thank you; and if you have permitted things to happen which have tested me and filled me with bitterness, help me to trust in your infinite love, that through the discipline I may give up all that grieves you. Forbid, O Heavenly Father, that I should ever lose the freshness, fertility, and beauty which you can maintain in hearts which are open to you. May it be my lot today, in the pressing duties of daily toil, to have a fresh, holy, and fragrant spirit. |
